47XX 2-8-0 update 20 December 2016

The pre-production sample has been assessed in detail by our panel of technical experts. A long and detailed report itemising all the required production changes has been prepared and sent to the builders. Last week we sent back the sample to the builders for modification in accordance with those changes. After careful consideration we have decided to simplify the build by limiting the locomotive to essentially two periods: late GWR and BR with the cab roof extension on both categories. Customers will still be able to have the choice of the Churchward 3500 gallon or the Collet 400 gallon tenders, but we remove a large number of changes affecting the engines in the very early operating period, which we cannot economically justify on a run of only 60 locomotives. Also, we will not produce the very early version with the Swindon No.1 boiler either, for which so far we have received no requests.

The expectation is that the 47XX will be the first of our new series of GWR tender engines to be built in 2017, with a target of mid-year delivery
